Q: Do I have to be a member of the United Methodist Church to attend Second UMC?
A: No. All are welcome.
Q: Can I take Communion if I am not a Methodist?
A: One need not be a member to share in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. All who truly repent of their sins and desire to lead a Christian life may participate.
Q: Is the church Bible-believing?
A: Absolutely. The Bible is God’s Word to us. It is the full and sufficient rule both of faith and practice. That is, it perfectly teaches us what we believe and how to live as God intends.
Q: Is the church friendly?
A: We like to think so. Visitors regularly tell us they find the people warm and friendly.
Q: What is the worship service like? When is it?
A: We offer two services on Sunday mornings, each of which has a distinctive style:
Our “traditional” service is at 8:45 am. The traditional service has a more formal style. It features congregational singing of hymns or gospel songs, responsive readings, and traditional service music such as the Gloria Patri (“Glory be to the Father…”) and Doxology ( “Praise God from whom all blessings flow…”), accompanied by an organ.
Our “contemporary” service is at 11:15 am. The contemporary service is informal in style. Contemporary Christian praise and worship songs are performed by a praise team, including electric guitars, drums, keyboard and vocalists.
Both services glorify God through music, prayer, offerings, Scripture, and Bible-based preaching. Laity participate in the service at both services. Both services offer a children’s message, and are signed for the hearing–impaired. Holy Communion is celebrated at both services at least once a month, usually on the first Sunday.
Second UMC also has a television broadcast that airs at 11 am Sundays on QBC, channel 2, for Comcast customers in Cumberland County and parts of Gloucester and Atlantic counties.
Additional special worship experiences are scheduled periodically, particularly during the Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter seasons.
