Pastor Steve Elliott : A Brief Biographical Sketch

 
Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar appointed The Rev. Steven D. Elliott as Pastor of Second UMC in July 2011. An ordained Elder of the United Methodist Church, Pastor Steve previously served the United Methodist Churches of Tabernacle and Chatsworth (1998-2002), and Dobbins Memorial UMC of Delanco (2002-2011). Each of these churches experienced physical and spiritual improvement under his care. Currently President of the Greater NJ Annual Conference Historical Society, he has also served the UMC in various posts at the District, Conference, and Jurisdictional levels in the specialty areas of camping ministry, church building and location, and archives and history.
A Millville native, Pastor Steve attended Culver School, Rieck Avenue School, Memorial High School, and graduated as President of the Millville Senior High School Class of 1986.He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Political Science from James Madison University in 1989; a Juris Doctor (Doctor of Law) from The College of William and Mary in 1993; and a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1998. Before entering seminary, he worked as an attorney in Millville, having been licensed in both the State and Federal courts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Known for his sense of humor, which he defines as the ability to see the difference between the way things are and the way things ought to be, he is also regarded as a talented writer, gifted musician, avid historian and genealogist.

Pastor Steve is joined in ministry by his wife, the former Corine Ingles of Millville. A former teacher at the Fairton Christian Academy, Corine volunteered as an educational missionary to Poland, helping establish the first Christian school in Warsaw after the fall of communism.Her other experiences include working as secretary to the Director of the B.L. Fisher Library at Asbury Seminary, where she also served on the seminary's Educational Resources Committee, and as secretary of the Wesleyan-Holiness Studies Project and the Society for Pentecostal Studies. She presently serves as the Office Administrator of South Jersey Christian Academy (SJCA) at the Sicklerville UMC, and as the Facilitator of the Pen & Heart Writers Society. Their daughter is a student at SJCA.
